Dark Star Sylas Worth Buying: Release Date & Price

Dark Star Sylas Worth Buying: Release Date & Price
5 min read

I’ve always had a soft spot for new League of Legends skins. They give champions I already enjoy playing a fresh look and sometimes even make the game feel new again.

When I saw Dark Star, Sylas announced, my first thought was simple. Is this really worth the RP?

Skins aren’t cheap, and I’ve wasted Riot Points before on ones that looked great in previews but felt off in-game. That’s why I wanted to take a closer look.

In this guide, I’ll cover what Dark Star Sylas actually offers, when it was released, how much it costs, and if I think it’s worth buying.

By the end, you should know if this skin deserves a place in your collection.

Dark Star Sylas: A Legendary Skin Overview

Dark Star Sylas is his first Legendary-tier skin. That alone makes it stand out because not every champ gets this kind of treatment.

The lore shows Sylas as a Dark Star corrupter, matching his role of breaking chains and toppling power.

He’s been reshaped into this cosmic destroyer, and it really matches the Dark Star line’s reputation for turning champions into something terrifying and otherworldly.

Being Legendary means it comes with a full set of features:

  • New voice filter that changes his lines
  • Fresh recall animation that fits the cosmic theme
  • Completely new VFX for all spells and abilities
  • Updated SFX that feel darker and more powerful

Release Date and Pricing

This skin was released on October 23, 2024, with patch 14.21. It came out during the Dark Star event alongside new skins for Zoe, Kai’Sa, Yorick, and Diana.

Out of the group, Sylas was the only champion who received Legendary treatment.

The price sits at 1820 RP, which is standard for Legendary skins. Depending on where you play, that’s roughly $15. For me, Legendary skins usually feel like a big step up from the Epic tier.

The effects and changes are much more noticeable.

The real question, though, is whether Dark Star Sylas gives enough value compared to his other skins to justify spending that much RP.

Visuals, Effects, and Gameplay

This is the part that matters most to me when I buy skins. It is about how it feels once you are in the middle of a fight.

Aspect Details
Visuals Matches the Dark Star theme with dark purples, black holes, and collapsing stars. Chains look like they tear space apart, and his W and R stand out the most.
Sound Each ability carries a deep cosmic hum. The recall is smooth, and the voice filter makes him sound less human and more like something from the void.
Clarity Visuals can become chaotic in team fights. Tracking abilities are harder when everything appears at once, and clarity takes a hit.
Gameplay Feel Mechanics stay the same, but abilities feel heavier and more destructive, making combos more satisfying.

If you like skins that fully change a champ, this one delivers. If you value clean visuals during ranked games, you might feel a bit mixed.

Position Within the Dark Star Skin Line

Dark Star Sylas was released alongside Zoe, Kai’Sa, Yorick, and Diana during the Dark Star event. Out of that group, Sylas was the only champion who received a Legendary skin.

The others were Epic tier at 1350 RP, with Diana getting a Prestige version unlocked through event tokens.

Before this event, the Dark Star line already had close to 20 skins. With the new additions, the collection grew past 25 skins spread across more than 20 champions.

Riot is keeping the Dark Star theme strong, and Sylas fits perfectly with its cosmic corruption and power.

Pros and Cons of Dark Star Sylas: Is It Worth Buying?

When I weigh skins, I like to think in simple terms. This is what stands out for Dark Star Sylas.

Pros Cons
Striking cosmic and dark design with glowing armor and celestial effects that really stand out visually More expensive than some other skins, as it is a Legendary-tier skin
Custom animations and sound effects add a fresh experience to Sylas’ gameplay Some players feel the skin’s effects can be overwhelming or too flashy
Strong lore tie-in, making Sylas feel like a cosmic force of destruction Compared to other Dark Star skins, it may feel less unique or impactful
Glowing cosmic particles and void-like effects enhance ability visuals Limited availability, sometimes only purchasable during special events
Popular among fans who like the Dark Star theme and powerful presence Some players prefer simpler skins for better clarity in gameplay situations

Conclusion

So, is Dark Star Sylas worth buying? It depends on how much you enjoy Sylas and if you like skins that fully change his feel. At 1820 RP, it’s a true Legendary.

The new effects, sounds, and cosmic theme make Sylas feel almost like a different champion.

It’s not perfect, though. Some players might find the visuals a little too overwhelming during fights. Still, it’s his most ambitious skin so far.

If you came for the release date, price, and value, you can now decide if Dark Star Sylas is worth buying or waiting.
